A few years ago this year we had the opportunity to do a little bit of a “breakfast” on the street and have it ready for you as soon as you get home. The idea was that we could do it with a few simple things in mind, like a sandwich, a glass of iced tea, and a mug of coffee. But we didn’t have a great time.

The problem is that our sugar mixtures, and ours are pretty basic, aren’t consistent enough. You can easily overdo it and it can make your candy tough. Another problem is that we often overcook the chocolate. So we’ve been adding more hot water to the mixture.
So far there has been no discernible difference in the consistency of the candy, but you shouldnt overdo it. Also, be sure to remove the white candy (from your egg whites) after youve added the sugar. I removed mine after my kids ate it because I didnt want them to have to eat the white candy.
Another problem I see with the bon bon candy is that it is very dark and very rich. This is a problem because many kids like candy that is more “crunchy” and “chalky” than the standard candy. I think it is possible that the bon bon candy weve been using is better for kids if we add the sugar to it at the end of the night. So I think the next iteration can be made much better.
