I’m not sure how peanut butter and cupcakes are supposed to work, but there’s one thing I do know: The recipe is a little more complicated than the peanut butter and jelly recipe. It calls for something called “cream cheese frosting,” and a cupcake base is not the same as a frosting base. So I’ve added a teaspoon of cream cheese for the cream cheese.
I think you can either use a cupcake base and butter the cupcakes and frost the top with cream cheese frosting, or add the cream cheese to the frosting base to get the peanut butter aspect. It really doesn’t matter. The result is pretty much the same.
I think it works fine in either case, but I like the addition of the cupcake frosting. It adds a bit of richness to the peanut butter.
