Instructions
Preparation Steps
Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
Stir in the salt and pepper. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
Add the macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to coat. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
