Best Classic Meatloaf Recipe

A simple and delicious classic meatloaf recipe that's perfect for a family dinner. Moist, tender, and full of flavor!

Ingredients
  

Meatloaf Mixture

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef 80/20 blend is recommended
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs plain or Italian seasoned
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 0.5 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Glaze

  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.

  • Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar for the glaze.

  • Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.

  • Bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and spread the remaining glaze over the meatloaf.

  • Continue baking for another 30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the meatloaf is cooked through.
  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes and a side of green beans for a complete meal.
