Bumblebee Flower Cupcakes

These bumblebee flower cupcakes turn cooled cupcakes into cheerful daisy treats with piped buttercream petals, candy centers, and simple fondant bees.

  • 12 cupcakes baked and cooled
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream or water
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening softened
  • 1 cup yellow candy melts
  • 2 tablespoons yellow nonpareils
  • 4 ounces yellow fondant
  • 2 ounces black fondant
  • 2 ounces white fondant

  • Bake cupcakes from a favorite recipe or box mix and cool them completely. Trim domes so tops are level.
  • Beat butter, shortening, confectioners sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and firm enough to pipe.
  • Pipe a ring of frosting around each cupcake edge.
  • Pipe six or seven daisy petals from the center toward the edge, then fill gaps.
  • Melt candy melts in 20-second intervals, pipe dollops onto parchment, top with nonpareils, and chill.
  • Place one candy center in each flower.
  • Roll yellow fondant into small oval bee bodies.
  • Cut thin black fondant strips and wrap two around each body.
  • Shape a black fondant cone and attach it as a stinger.
  • Press tiny black fondant balls onto each face for eyes.
  • Flatten white fondant circles, pinch into teardrops, and attach two wings to each bee.
  • Set each bee on a daisy center; use a toothpick for transport if needed.
