  • 3 cups All-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp Salt

Frosting (Optional)

  • 4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Food coloring optional

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
  • Place cookies on ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • If desired, frost cookies with the frosting and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
