Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in the molasses.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool completely before frosting.
