Preparation Steps

  • Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot. Add salt.
  • Gradually whisk in the polenta. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 25 minutes.
  • Stir in the butter and cheese until melted and combined. Season with black pepper.
  • Serve hot, garnished with additional cheese if desired.

Notes

Polenta can be served as a side dish or a main course. You can also let it cool and set, then slice and fry for a crispy treat.
