garlic potato mash

A savory and creamy garlic potato mash made with sweet potatoes, sautéed garlic, butter, and a touch of sour cream. A healthy and flavorful side dish perfect for any occasion, especially Thanksgiving.

  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes 4 medium, peeled and cubed
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic crushed
  • 0.5 cup milk 1% low-fat milk
  • 2 tbsp light sour cream
  • salt to taste
  • fresh cracked ground pepper to taste

Preparation Steps

  • In a large pot, boil sweet potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain in a colander.
  • Meanwhile, melt butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Sauté crushed garlic until lightly golden, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Return drained potatoes to the pot. Add sautéed garlic with butter, milk, and sour cream. Mash with a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Notes

For a richer flavor, substitute half the milk with warm heavy cream. Top with chopped parsley or green onions for a pop of color.
