Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside, reserving the rendered fat in the pot.
Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the soaked and drained navy beans, brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Add enough water to cover the beans by about 1 inch. Bring to a simmer.
Cover the pot and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until beans are tender.
Remove from the oven and stir in the cooked bacon. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add a ham hock while baking. Adjust sweetness to your preference by adding more or less brown sugar or molasses.
