Prep : 10 Total : 25 minutes

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried Navy Beans Soaked overnight
  • 6 oz Bacon Diced
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion Chopped
  • 0.5 cup Brown Sugar
  • 0.25 cup Molasses
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black Pepper

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  • In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside, reserving the rendered fat in the pot.
  • Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the soaked and drained navy beans, brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Add enough water to cover the beans by about 1 inch. Bring to a simmer.
  • Cover the pot and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until beans are tender.
  • Remove from the oven and stir in the cooked bacon. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a ham hock while baking. Adjust sweetness to your preference by adding more or less brown sugar or molasses.
