Prep : 10 Total : 25 minutes

Ingredients

Sauce Base

  • 1.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.33 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a little heat)

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together all of the ingredients until well combined.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20-30 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool slightly before serving.
  • Store any leftover BBQ sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

This BBQ sauce is incredibly versatile. Use it as a marinade, a finishing sauce on ribs or chicken, or as a dip for fries and appetizers. Adjust the sugar and vinegar to your preference for a sweeter or tangier sauce.
