Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani Recipe

A deliciously fragrant and spicy Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani perfect for special occasions.

  • 2.5 pounds chicken cut into pieces
  • 2 cups basmati rice soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 cup yogurt plain
  • 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder adjust to taste
  • 1 cup fried onions store-bought or homemade
  • 1 bunch cilantro chopped
  • 1 bunch mint leaves chopped
  • 0.5 cup ghee

Preparation Steps

  • In a bowl, marinate the chicken with yogurt, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Set aside for 30 minutes.
  • Cook the soaked rice in boiling water until 70% cooked. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large pot, melt the ghee and add marinated chicken. Cook until the chicken is tender.
  • Layer half of the cooked rice on top of the chicken, sprinkle with fried onions, cilantro, and mint. Repeat with the remaining rice and herbs.
  • Cover the pot tightly and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes.

Notes

Serve hot with raita or a side salad for a complete meal.
