In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor will be.
Serve over your favorite pasta.
Notes
For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. You can also add other vegetables like chopped carrots or celery for extra flavor and nutrition.
