  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 0.75 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Hot brewed coffee

Frosting

  • 0.5 cup Butter softened
  • 3 cups Powdered sugar
  • 0.33 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until well combined. Gradually add hot coffee and mix until smooth.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cake cool completely before frosting.
  • To make the frosting, in a large bowl, cream together butter, powdered sugar, and cocoa until smooth. Gradually add milk and vanilla, beating until light and fluffy.
  • Frost the cooled cake. Cut into squares and serve.
