Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium-high heat, breaking it into small pieces; drain excess fat if needed.
Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper for 30 seconds.
Add the crushed tomatoes, beans, and beef broth. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil.
Reduce the heat to low, cover partially, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust the seasoning. Serve hot with shredded cheese, sour cream, or sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
Simmering gives the spices time to blend and thickens the chili.
