Instructions
Instructions
Combine yeast, sugar, salt, and 2 cups flour.
Add water and 1 tablespoon oil; beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
Gradually add 2 cups flour until dough pulls from the bowl sides.
Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes, adding flour as needed.
Oil the bowl, add dough, turn to coat, cover, and let double for about 45 minutes.
Heat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
Punch down dough and cut into 16 pieces.
Roll pieces into ropes.
Wrap ropes around hot dogs and pinch ends closed.
Simmer baking soda in a pot of water.
Simmer pretzel dogs 30 seconds per side, then transfer to the sheet.
Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
Bake 15–20 minutes until golden.
Cool briefly, insert sticks, and serve.
Notes
Use a slotted spatula when transferring the pretzel dogs from the simmering water.
