potatoes au gratin recipe

A classic and comforting potatoes au gratin recipe, perfect for a weeknight dinner or holiday side dish.

  • 2.5 lb Russet potatoes Peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 cups Heavy cream
  • 1.5 cups Gruyere cheese Shredded
  • 4 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Arrange a layer of potato slices in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Top with a layer of Gruyere cheese.
  • Repeat layers until all potatoes and cheese are used, ending with a layer of cheese.
  • Pour heavy cream over the potatoes and cheese. Dot the top with butter.
  • Bake for 60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of Gruyere and Parmesan cheese.
