Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through.
Pour in the white wine and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.
