Slow Cooker Bone Broth
Make slow cooker bone broth with bones, vegetables, apple cider vinegar, and a long gentle simmer for a savory broth to sip or use in recipes.
Prep: 20 minutes minutes
Cook: 1 day day
Total: 1 day day 20 minutes minutes
Ingredients
- 3 lb beef or poultry bones raw or roasted
- 1 large onion quartered
- 2 carrots roughly chopped
- 2 celery stalks roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic smashed
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp whole black peppercorns
- cold water to cover the bones
- 1 tsp fine sea salt or to taste after straining
Instructions
Place the bones, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaves, and peppercorns in a slow cooker.
Add the apple cider vinegar and enough cold water to cover the bones by about 1 inch. Let the mixture stand for 20 minutes.
Cover and cook on low for 18 to 24 hours, checking the water level occasionally and adding more hot water if needed to keep the bones covered.
Strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve into a large heatproof container. Discard the solids and season with salt if desired.
Cool promptly, refrigerate, and skim the solidified fat from the surface before serving or storing.
