  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups Hot water
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Stir in milk, oil, and vanilla extract until just combined.
  • Pour batter into an ungreased 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine hot water and brown sugar. Pour over the batter.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with gooey crumbs.
  • Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
