In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, peanut butter, 0.75 cup granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in 0.25 cup granulated sugar, and place on ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned. Immediately press a Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie.
Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
